Summer Lemonade Craving

Okay I am terrible in the summer, I LOVE my countrytime lemonade mix... BUUUUT, in an effort to avoid food colorings and such I am trying to figure out how to replicate the taste and convenience of the mix with something a bit healthier...

Any suggestions??

  1. I have been making lemon water. Some citric acid, no more than 2 tsp per gallon of water, some lemon oil or extract, to taste, I use 1 1/2 tsp per gallon, and however much sugar or other sweetener you like, I use 1/2 cup per gallon. It looks like water but tastes like lemonade. Hope this helps!

  2. LOL, see I knew you'd have and idea! My one question is - Where do you get citric acid... not something I remember seeing at the grocery store?

  3. I got it at a cooking store, actually to put in my dishwasher detergent, it doubles as a degreaser! Then I realized it was in every yummy tangy drink. You could use the true lemon variety they sell with the drink mixes, as it is essentially citric acid with dried lemon powder and is all natural, but I thought it was cheaper to buy a small tub of the plain citric acid.

  6. I discovered I love it even more with just a tad less citric acid and a tad more sugar! :)
